Adlingfleet Wesleyan Methodist chapel

Adlingfleet Wesleyan Methodist chapel

The 1867 Registration of Methodist chapels in Yorkshire records both Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan chapels.  Thanks to Raymond Ella for finding references to Adlingfleet in the East Riding of Yorkshire Archives.  In the Archives are Goole Methodist Circuit Records (including the Records of the former Swinefleet Primitive Methodist Circuit) from c.1832 (?) to c.1932, continued to 1933 and 1934, ref. EMG/3-6.

Raymond tracked down the locations on the 1888 Ordnance Survey maps – see here..

Google Street View in 2009 shows the Wesleyan chapel still standing on Grange Road but derelict and for sale.  The Primitive chapel no longer exists.  On its site in Manor Road is Le Frances House with its date stone of 1980. Street View hasn’t been back since 2009.

When I posted this page I asked what happened to the Wesleyan chapel.  Thanks again to Ray for more research. He notes that East Riding of Yorkshire Council granted planning for the redundant Wesleyan Chapel in 2008, although it was not clear whether it was started and finished.  However,  further permission was granted for a first floor balcony  in  2017.

The village is within a conservation area. It would still be good to have a picture.
