Whilst exploring maps of Sowerby village itself, I found a former Wesleyan chapel, complete with burial ground, at the northern end of Rooley Lane HX6 1JY. It actually faced onto the back lane joining Rooley Lane and what Google Maps shows as the Rushcart Inn, shown on the 1894 OS map as the Star Inn. On the 1964 map the chapel is called Rooley Lane Methodist Church.
In 2009 there are new houses on the site.
Who were the people involved? What’s the story?
