Brecon, Thomas Coke Memorial Chapel, Powys

The Dr Coke Memorial Chapel on Lion Street Brecon stood at NGR SO 0450 2867 and was built in 1834 to the memory of Dr Thomas Coke 1747 – 1814 born in Brecon and known as the first Methodist Bishop. Coke met John Wesley in 1776 and became one of Wesleys closest assistants and was also known as ” The Father of the Methodist Missions “. His memorial Chapel stood in Lion Street until 1978 when a fire in Lion Street damaged the Building beyond repair and the Chapel was demolished. I attach one image showing the Chapel interior with no roof after the fire in 1978. This picture is copyright of the Royal Commission Ancient and Historic Monuments Wales and the Coke image as far as I am aware is a creativecommons free to use Wiki image. There was no attached graveyard to this chapel.
