Crook Hope Street Wesleyan Methodist chapel

The wonderfully named Crook Hope Street Wesleyan chapel, on the corner of Wesley Street and Hope Street, had beautiful glasswork.  The pictures show some of the  decorative glass form the chapel which was incorporated into the fabric of the hall at the combined Dawson Street society.

You can read a little more about that society here. In 2020 it is in a Local Ecumenical Partnership with its URC partner.

  • Would you have any information about the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Crooke, District of Auckland in County Durham dating back to 1911. I have distant relatives that were married there 16th October 1911. George Peace 23 to Jane Anne Atkinson 22. Any information would be appreciated. So long ago so grasping at straws.

  • The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel stood on the corner of Wesley Street and Hope Street. It has been demolished. Happy to send you a photograph of it if I can have some details.

  • Hi, I am trying to identify Crook’s Wesleyan Methodist Chapel but cannot locate it when ‘walking’ around Crook, despite your map locating it on Hope Street. There is a close nearby Wesley Street, but no sign of the Chapel. Is it still there? Where did the photos of the stained glass come from? Any help would be welcome, my grandparents and two sets of great-grand-parents were married at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Crook 1865, 1881, 1908.
