This former chapel stands on Middle Road. The ecclesiastical census (1851) records a Wesleyan chapel of 1849 with 105 sittings – the Primitive chapel (Ebenezer) was built in the same year.
A building offered for sale in 1863 (and again two years later) was described as “newly built and used as a Wesleyan chapel”. In all probability, it was the same (1849) chapel, and rented out.
The last reference found to Wesleyan activities here is in 1870. Some trade directories list it beyond that date, but the Wesleyan Returns of 1873 do not include it.
An Ordnance Survey map of 1882 still shows a Methodist chapel on this site – from 1875 there are reports of the Free Methodists (Downham circuit) using the building. O/S maps mark the chapel as disused during the first decade of the C20th.
It was later occupied by the Plymouth Brethren until becoming the village Post Office, and is now a dwelling known as The Old Post Office.
