Student Minister Charles Escritt 1896/7

Charles Escritt b.March 1874, Sculcoates, Hull.

I am seeking my Grandfather’s connection with the Wesleyan Church. His parents were Tom and Hannah Escritt and Charles was issued a South African passport on 19th Feb 1897. Was this part of his agreement with the Church to have missionary experience before starting his training at the Richmond Wesleyan College? He returned from South Africa in August 1899 and began at the college in that same year.

He was ordained as Deacon (1910) and Priest (1911) by Bishop Handley Moule, Bishop of Durham. Charles parents were not well off and I would like any information on the family connection with the Wesleyan Church.
