Rev William Richard Rogers 1852 to 1854

His life in the Burnley Circuit, stationed at Padiham

In 1852 William Richard joined Superintendent Minister Reverend Alexander Strachan and Reverend John Watson. William Richard was living in nearby Padiham where a new Chapel had been built. “At the Conference of 1847 the circuit had so grown that the services of a third minister were required, and he was appointed to reside at Padiham.” William Richard was the third such minister to live in Padiham.
It was here on 2nd March 1853 at Wesley Cottage, Padiham, William Richard’s next daughter Edwina Thorneycroft Rogers was born.

The Minutes of Conference 1853 show that Reverend Alexander Strachan continued to be the Superintendent Minister but William Richard was now the first Junior Minister and Reverend James G. Cox was the third Minister.

Fourteen months later his third son Martin Swindells Rogers was born on 23rd May 1854 at Wesley Cottage, Padiham. When I am able to see the Bollington Circuit records I hope to be able to determine which Martin Swindells is remembered in his son’s name.
