SPENCER, Harold Bemrose 1885 - 1949

Born at Lincoln in 1885. He was educated at the City School, Lincoln. Though his parents were Congregationalists, he himself from childhood was associated with the Hannah Memorial Church, Lincoln, and was one of many youths who came under the influence of T. E. Hill’s Young Men’s Class at that church.

He was accepted for the Ministry, and after a year’s supply at Spilsby entered Richmond College. His love for his college remained with him to the end.

He was trained to clerical work, and on entering the Ministry had a thorough knowledge of office method and routine. He thus brought a business-like efficiency to bear upon all that he did. He served his Lord with an absolute devotion to duty.

He was a diligent visitor and was ever welcome in the homes of his people. A glance at his large library revealed that he was a man of wide reading, and all that he gleaned was placed at the service of the pulpit. He died with tragic suddenness.

Having preached three times on Sunday, 4th December 1949, and after fulfilling a late call to visit an old lady, he was suddenly taken ill and before dawn of the next day had entered the Homeland.

He was in the sixty-sixth year of his age and the thirty-ninth of his ministry.
