SHARPLEY, William Thomas 1880 - 1950
Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1950, page 150
Born at Haddenham, Isle of Ely, in 1880. A son of the manse. Educated at Kingswood, trained at Handsworth, he entered the Ministry in 1908. His outstanding work as a chaplain began upon his appointment to Devonport Garrison, and continued for fifteen years in Malta, Aldershot, France, Preece Hill, and Gibraltar.
He had a great and gracious influence upon Service-men. His circuit ministry was most fragrant and fruitful. His passion for preaching led him to accept appointments when his increasing weakness would scarcely permit the fatigue of the pulpit. Sympathetic, sensitive, selfless, all the people loved him.
He loved his Lord deeply. He died in hospital on 13th May 1950, in his seventieth year, honoured as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
