Englesea Brook postcard collection

The picture and postcard collection at Englesea Brook Museum of Primitive Methodism contains a number of pictures of chapels which we are not sure about.  The front of one picture card which includes a chapel  says “Weymouth” whilst the reverse says “Pipegate.”

Weymouth chapel turns out not to be in Dorset, but on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border.  Rev. Michael Parrott has identified, with the help of friends in the old Newcastle under Lyme Circuit, where he used to be stationed, that Weymouth Chapel was situated in the parish of Pipegate. The fact that Pipegate is in Shropshire caused some confusion when it came to classifying the chapel on this site, but thanks to Mrs Janice Cox who commented, “I think this chapel was just inside Staffordshire, not Shropshire. The border is very close, but the crossroads just next to the chapel are shown on O.S. maps as in Staffordshire.” Hence it is now classified under Staffordshire, until any further correction!

The chapel closed in the 1960’s.
