Dewlish chapel, April 2023
Date stone on side of chapel, April 2023

This chapel appeared to be unused when we went through the village in 2023.

According to Geoffrey Goodall’s list of closed chapels there was a chapel built in 1843, a fire in 1858, rebuilt in 1859, renovated in 1905. He does not have a date of final closure.

Records at Dorset History Centre under reference NM-2/S/ refer to purchase of land to build a chapel between 1873 and 1876 so I assume the date stone on the side of the chapel has come from the earlier building. There are also papers referring to a centenary in 1959 and a 125th anniversary in 1984.
