Grid ref NY208429

Fletchertown chapel with a schoolroom and vestries was built of stone in 1894. The chapel measured 29 feet by 28 feet, the hall 20½ feet by 22 feet and there was one other room. It was designed by Charles Eaglesfield of Wigton, architect, and the main contractors were William Lattimer of Fletchertown, builder and joiner and WA Mark of Wigton, painter, plumber, and glazier,. By 1898 the cumulative cost of the premises was £300. The following year it was virtually rebuilt for a further £230. In 1911 it had 277 sittings and the same number, on pews and forms, in 1940. By 1980 the seating had been reduced to 120 places. The chapel closed after 1991. The rear portion has been thoroughly renovated for residential use but the front portion called Chapel Studio is in poor condition.
