ELLIOTT, GEORGE ALEXANDER ? - 1950

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1951. Page 119

Entered the Wesleyan Ministry in 1909 and for over forty years served his Lord and his Church with devotion.

The first seven years were spent in the Leeward Islands, West Indies.

In 1916 he became a Chaplain to the Forces in the Middle East, and for
four years he served the troops in that area.

Returning to England in 1920, he spent twenty-five happy and fruitful years in the Home work, where his wide experience as chaplain and missionary helped to make his approach to his fellows singularly helpful. In all his circuits he was greatly beloved for his consistency and sincerity. He abhorred anything that savoured of publicity. His best work was done in the homes and hearts of the people, and any opportunity to mediate Christ to his fellows was eagerly used. In 1945 he became a supernumerary, and came to reside in the Chester, St. John’s circuit.

Ill-health precluded any active participation in the work of the circuit, but as a regular and devoute worshipper he soon came to be known as a deeply spiritual member of the Society. Sometimes he would feel equal to assisting in the administration of Holy Communion and this sacred ministry filled his heart with joy. George Elliott carried the stamp of one who walked with God.

His last illness compelled a return to his native Ireland where he passed away on the 4th August 1950.
