HELM, William Angelo 1881 - 1951

Born at Padiham, Lancs, in 1881. He entered the family iron foundry business, but after some years felt the call to the ministry and was accepted for the work of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at the age of twenty- seven.

After training at Headingley College he served in the following circuits : Attleborough, Pocklington, Lerwick, Nantwich, Cockermouth, Richmond. Yorks, Mid-Gloucester Mission, Northwich, Crewe, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Shotley Bridge and Consett, Blyth, and Gateshead East.

During the first world war he served as an Army chaplain, and in 1945, owing to ill-health, he became a Supernumerary.

During the last few years of his life he passed through much suffering, but always faced it with Christian faith and much courage, still joining in the services of the church whenever possible.

In all his circuits he is remembered as an earnest preacher, and many benefited from his ministry.

Throughout his life he kept in contact with the friends of his early years of business life, exercising all the while a gracious ministry of preaching and sympathetic encouragement.

He died at Ponteland in the Newcastle-upon-Tyne North-west Circuit on 3th August 1951 in the seventy-first year of his age and the forty-first of his ministry.
