HUGHES, Robert David 1904 - 1950

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1950, page 146

Born at Pentredwr, Llangollen, in 1904, in a Christian home, which gave him an early desire to serve the Master. He entered the Welsh Methodist Ministry in 1931, after a period of training at Handsworth College. Most of his ministry was spent in the First North Wales District, where he won the esteem and affection of all his people.

He was a choice spirit, humble, quiet, and ‘unassuming. A diligent and devoted pastor, he shared the joys and sufferings of those whom he served, thereby winning their love and loyalty. During the last six months, m spite of failing health, he insisted on remaining at his work and fulfilling his day-to-day duties.

His fortitude, courage, and faithfulness will remain an inspiration, and his glowing faith and conscientious belief a treasured memory. He was a devout soul, a loyal friend, a gracious and a gallant soldier of Christ, who never -spared himself in whatever task he undertook.

The news of his passing has caused surprise and a deep sense of loss.

On 29th March 1950 he passed on to Higher Service in the forty-sixth year of his life and the nineteenth of his ministry.
