Woodhouse Eaves Wesleyan Methodist Chapel Baptismal register

Baptismal Register 1841 to 1914

Like many chapels, Woodhouse Eaves (in Leicestershire) bought a new baptismal register following the introduction of civil registration. Prior to the surrender of the registers there had been a Circuit register for baptisms in the Loughborough Circuit. Woodhouse Eaves is a small rural chapel, so the register was still in use, and nowhere full, when it was finally deposited (DE5939/1) in the Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland Record Office in 2001.

This transcription is of the 175 baptisms between 1841 and 1914. It is of interest that 10% of those occurred on the first day the book was used, and that 7 of those baptised on that day were adult or in their late teens. A revival perhaps? This transcription also ends with a mass baptism, of five siblings.
