TROUNSON, Ernest William 1874 - 1950

Born at Lewisham in 1874. He was educated at Kent College, Canterbury, and at the beginning of a business career came under the influence of the Rev. Hugh Price Hughes. Through the friendship of this great preacher, Ernest Trounson heard the call to the Ministry. After training at Richmond College, his ministry was exercised mainly in Midland and Northern Districts, where his gracious influence is still felt.

He loved preaching and was a true pastor of the flock. He took an active interest in Sunday-school work, and had always been much in demand at Young People’s Services wherever he was stationed.

The winsomeness of his personality endeared him to old and young alike.

In 1943 he became a supernumerary, and settled in the Ilfracombe Circuit, but his love for preaching and pastoral work would not let him rest; he still gave generously of his gifts. In his youth he had been an athlete, and up to the time of his last illness he took a delight in walking long distances, sometimes to fulfil preaching appointments.

He was a loyal friend, beloved by his colleagues and people. His radiant cheerfulness and his benevolent humour and wisdom more than commended the man—they also commended his Saviour. It is known that his courage and bearing during his last days spent in hospital gave new hope and determination to his fellow patients, and was a source of inspiration and a benediction to all who came in contact with him.

He passed away peacefully in his sleep on 15th June 1950.
