STANDFAST, Edwin (B.D.) 1876 - 1950

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1950, page 141

Born at Manchester in 1876. After training at Handsworth College, he was appointed to Falmouth in 1901. A man of fine presence, gracious and serene in spirit, he loved and was loved by his brethren, who found in their colleagueship or friendship with him a charm of character which was the fruit of deep insight and sure faith in Christ.

As a preacher he was in great demand. He : adorned the pulpit with his utterly dedicated life. His pastoral work will remain a fragrant and cherished memory. He had a sensitiveness to the sorrows of others which endeared him to his people and made a lasting impression on all his churches and circuits.

Always punctual and scrupulously attentive to detail, it was inevitable he should be elected to District offices.

He proved him self an efficient Secretary If of the Macclesfield District, and later served with distinction as Chairman of the Isle of Man District.

His last years of retirement were shadowed by ill-health. Nevertheless he continued to be enriched by the ‘ grace that sweetly works by love ‘ and was sustained by the loving care of his wife and daughter.

His end, on 6th February 1950, in the forty-ninth year of his ministry and the seventy-fourth of his life, was peace and a foreshadowing of the glory that awaited him.
