SHOOTER, Arthur Edwin 1885 - 1950

Born at Barton-on-Humber, Lincs, in 1885. Answering a definite call to the Ministry, he was trained at Handsworth College.

His active ministry of forty-one years began at Bath, and included appointments 5 both in the provinces and the London District. Throughout these years he gave of his best to the Church he loved.

Ever resourceful, courageous, and intensely loyal, he won the respect and love of an ever-increasing number of friends.

He was an able and wise administrator, and faced difficulties and problems with rare courage and faith. He placed his many gifts unreservedly at the service of the societies to which he ministered, and his example was an inspiration to both young and old.

As a chaplain in two world wars, he was known for his leadership and loved for his strong and cheerful personality, His own life of self-discipline and loyalty enabled him to ‘ appreciate the peculiar problems of the Services.

For many years he served on the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force Board, and found great joy in this important branch of the Church’s work.

Going to Ilford in 1945, he devoted himself to the many problems of church and circuit life, and continued to within a few days of his death to direct circuit affairs and to preach God’s Good News.

His last months were a brave and gallant fight against much pain and increasing weakness, and his passing, on 8th February 1950, was a sore and tragic blow to the circuit and to all who knew and loved him.
