Rev William Richard Rogers 1864 to 1867

In 1864 Conference decided that William Richard should move to Haverfordwest where he would be the Superintendent Minister and become the Chairman of the Swansea District, a role which he held until his death in 1868. His Junior Minister was Reverend Thomas Wilde. Reverend Wilde was the Financial Secretary for the Swansea District.

In Wales there were two similar Districts in the south, The Swansea District which was for the English speaking chapels and the South Wales District for the Welsh speaking chapels.

While in Haverfordwest William Richard’s son Edward Ernest died on 3rd April 1865. On the death certificate there are two causes of death – 1. Hooping (Whooping) Cough (3 weeks) and 2. Convulsions (2 months), so the family would always have sad memories associated with their time in Haverfordwest. At this time the Minister was living in Hill Street.
