High Sand Went Chapel was built in 1796-7 by George Robinson, a Cockermouth cooper, who sold it to the Wesleyan trustees for £70. They continued in occupation until their new chapel in Market Place was opened in 1841. They then let and later sold the building to the Primitive Methodists. It was later used by a congregation of Bretheren and is now a public hall. (Griffin, EW, Watchers of a Beacon: The Story of the Keswick and Cockermouth Methodist Circuit)
