BURROW, Philip Shadrach 1875 - 1961

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1962, page 196

Born in London in 1875. He was accepted for the Ministry of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1902 and was sent for training to Richmond College.

In 1905 he went as a missionary to the West Indies, where he served in the Barbados District for fourteen years. Returning to this country in 1919, he ministered in the Mid-Gloucester Mission, the Mid-Somerset Mission, Wellington, Morley, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Colne, Burnley, Haworth and Oakworth, becoming a supernumerary at the Conference of 1948.

Returning to Leeds, he was an active supernumarary at the Eldon church in the Brunswick Circuit until its closure.

He went to Faversham in 1958 but was no longer able to take services.

He enjoyed attending the Sunday services as long as it was possible for him to make the journey. He had many happy memories of the work in the West Indies, although he was always reluctant to speak of himself.

His humility of spirit, charm of manner and a quiet sense of humour enlightened the enforced inactivity of his last few months.

He died on 29 November 1961 in the eighty-seventh year of his age and the fifty-seventh of his ministry.
