BROWN, Alexander Downie ? - 1950

Entered the Ministry in 1903. It was while he was serving with his regiment in the British Army that he was called to the Ministry and, for the next twenty-nine years, served in India, with the exception of five years as a chaplain in France, during the First World War.

Returning to England in 1932, he did good work in the Accrington, Hull, and Launceston Circuits.

Later on, he became an active Supernumerary in Scotland, and, last year, retired to St. Leonards.

Those who served with him counted him a loyal colleague and friend. Some of them, knowing his Scottish origin, felt there was much of the Covenanter in his character, and in his service.

Throughout his ministry he was a faithful evangelist, and won for Christ many of the men serving during his long spell there. His strong convictions, based on his love and understanding of the Bible, made him a sturdy fighter for religious liberty all over the world.

Toward the end of his life, he endured much suffering bravely, as a good soldier of Christ whom he served so loyally.

He died on 7th July 1950, at St. Leonards, in the forty-seventh year of his ministry.
